American Well adds breastfeeding support to its telehealth platform

American Well - tablet UI

American Well announced that its clinical partner, Online Care Group, has added online breastfeeding support to its growing list of clinical services. This in turn will enable American Well clients — including health systems, health plans and employers — to provide their customers (or employees) with access to International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) for on-demand and scheduled video visits. These experts can answer questions, address concerns, and offer other breastfeeding-related advice.

American Well claims it is the only company to offer breastfeeding support services through its clinical partner.

“Access to breastfeeding support at the hospital where the baby is born may be limited or non-existent, and this creates undue stress on baby and mother,” Dr. Sylvia Romm, medical director, American Well and pediatrician, said in a statement. “We are so happy to offer this helpful and necessary clinical service to our partners, and to help new moms and their babies feel safe, secure and happy at home.”

The benefits of breastfeeding support services for consumers via American Well’s platform include timely help with common breastfeeding issues, the convenience of seeing a consultant over video within 24 hours of requesting an appointment, the option to self-schedule appointments, and of course competitive pricing.

Online Care Group’s breastfeeding support service is one of several clinical service lines available. Other services include primary care, pediatrics, psychiatry, therapy, and nutrition.

American Well currently partners with more than 250 healthcare organizations nationwide from a wide array of industries, including health plans, employers, retail outlets, pharmacy and pharmaceutical companies, and 70 health systems comprised of more than 700 hospitals.
