Anthem Blue Cross makes telehealth visits available to its Medi-Cal customers

Anthem Blue Cross has started offering its Medi-Cal consumers the option to use telehealth as a no-cost, covered benefit through Anthem’s telehealth platform, LiveHealth Online. Available on a smartphone, tablet or computer — the service lets Anthem Blue Cross Medi-Cal consumers log into LiveHealth Online’s website or mobile app to visit with board-certified doctors, licensed therapists, psychologists and psychiatrists. These online video sessions offer a private and secure option for accessing non-emergency medical care and behavioral health support from the comfort of home.

“LiveHealth Online is a great option for people who may not be able to access healthcare services, whether it is because they need care after-hours, because they live in remote or rural areas, or if they simply do not have transportation to get to a doctor’s office,” Dr. Barsam Kasravi, chief medical officer of Anthem Blue Cross Medicaid Health Plan, said in a statement. “Through LiveHealth Online, individuals and families can access professional healthcare services for non-emergency conditions within minutes, or they can schedule telehealth visits to address behavioral health needs. This benefit can significantly improve access to care, including to behavioral healthcare, which has become critical in California.”

LiveHealth Online allows consumers to access doctors and therapists 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including holidays. Anthem Blue Cross Medi-Cal consumers across the state can simply log on to or download the LiveHealth Online mobile app, register their information and talk to a doctor without an appointment or long wait times. Visits with psychologists, therapists and psychiatrists require appointments, though.

LiveHealth Online provides quality medical care for common health conditions such as coughs, colds, cuts, bruises, sprains, strains and other non-emergency/non-life threatening issues. It also expands options for accessing behavioral health resources, which may be hard to find or access. Also, if needed, prescriptions and/or prescription refills can be provided by LiveHealth Online’s board-certified doctors and be sent directly to a consumer’s pharmacy of choice.

Additionally, Anthem Blue Cross consumers in California who speak Spanish have the option to visit with Spanish-speaking doctors and clinicians by using LiveHealth Online’s Cuidado M├ędico option.
