Millions of people ask health questions online every day. They want to know what their lab results mean, whether a symptom needs attention, or how their medications work. The problem is that health information scattered across different apps and portals makes it hard to get personalized answers.
Perplexity just launched Perplexity Health, a new tool that connects all your health data in one place. The AI-powered service pulls information from medical records, fitness trackers, and lab results to answer health questions specific to your situation.
How does it work?
Perplexity Health connects to multiple data sources through partnerships and direct integrations:
- Apple Health integration
- Electronic health records from over 1.7 million healthcare providers
- Fitness platforms like Fitbit, Ultrahuman, and Withings
- Upcoming connections to ŌURA and Function
The system uses Perplexity Computer, an AI orchestrator that manages multiple agents working together. When you ask a health question, it draws from your medical history, recent lab work, and activity data simultaneously.
For example, a question about your resting heart rate gets an answer that factors in your exercise patterns, heart health history, and latest blood tests. The tool can also create custom training plans, prepare summaries for doctor visits, or suggest personalized nutrition approaches.
Why does it matter?
Most health information online comes from content written to rank well in search engines, not to provide accurate medical guidance. Perplexity Health pulls answers from premium medical literature, clinical guidelines, and peer-reviewed journals instead.
Every response includes direct citations to source material. The system also has built-in safety measures, including clear guidance about when to seek professional medical care.
Personal health data gets strong privacy protection. Information is encrypted during transfer and storage, with strict access controls. Users can disconnect data sources or delete information anytime. The company says it won’t use health data to train AI models or sell it to other companies.
The context
Perplexity Health launches as part of the company’s broader Computer platform, which combines AI agents for research, coding, and content creation. The health tool represents a move into specialized, high-stakes applications of AI search.
The company is forming a Health Advisory Board with physicians, researchers, and health technology experts. This group will review product decisions, content quality, and clinical safety measures against medical standards.
The service rolls out first to Perplexity Pro and Max subscribers in the United States over the coming weeks. More user groups and countries will get access later.
Perplexity emphasizes that the tool provides educational information to help users understand their data and talk with doctors. It doesn’t diagnose, treat, or prevent medical conditions and isn’t a replacement for professional medical advice.
