Perplexity partners with b.well to give AI health answers using your real medical records

The partnership lets users connect their complete health history to get personalized AI responses instead of generic health information

Perplexity and b.well Connected Health announced a partnership that lets people securely connect their complete medical records to AI-powered health searches. Instead of getting generic health information, users can now get AI responses based on their actual medical history.

The collaboration works through b.well’s national health data network, which connects to over 2.4 million healthcare providers and 350 health plans. Users must explicitly give permission for Perplexity to access their health records and can remove that access anytime.

How will it work?

Users can authorize Perplexity to pull their health information through b.well’s network. When they ask health questions, the AI will use their real medical data to give personalized answers instead of general information.

The system is built around user control:

  • Users must explicitly authorize access to their records
  • They can revoke permissions at any time
  • All data access goes through b.well’s secure network

“Data Completeness and Data Quality are two of the key factors in the accuracy and safety of Health AI answers,” said Imran Qureshi, CTO of b.well Connected Health. The company uses a 13-step data refinery process to clean and standardize health information before AI systems access it.

Why does it matter?

Millions of people already ask AI systems about health topics, but they get generic responses that don’t account for their medical history. This partnership changes that by grounding AI answers in real clinical data.

“Millions of people already turn to AI to ask health questions,” said Kristen Valdes, CEO of b.well Connected Health. “By connecting Perplexity’s powerful answer engine with b.well’s trusted health data network, we can ensure those answers are grounded in a person’s actual medical history.”

Healthcare is one area where context matters enormously. A medication recommendation or symptom explanation that works for most people might be wrong or even dangerous for someone with specific conditions or allergies.

The context

This partnership shows how AI companies are trying to move beyond generic responses by connecting to real data sources. Healthcare represents a particularly important test case because wrong information can have serious consequences.

b.well operates one of the largest connected health data networks in the US, with connections to millions of providers and hundreds of health plans and labs. The company has built its business around solving healthcare’s data fragmentation problem.

“Healthcare is one of the most important areas where accurate context matters,” said Dmitry Shevelenko, Chief Business Officer of Perplexity. “By partnering with b.well, we can ensure AI responses are informed by trusted health data while maintaining strong privacy protections.”

The announcement is part of b.well’s broader strategy to power AI health assistants by giving them access to secure, real-time healthcare data through its interoperability platform.
