Microsoft is gearing towards new product launch on October 6th, when — among other things — we’ll likely see the updated version of the Microsoft Band wearable.
Dubbed Microsoft Band 2, the device — codenamed “Envoy” — will bear resemblance to the original Band product, adding few minor changes to the mix. These would include metal accents and curved screen, along with the ability to measure the “height of an exercise” routine. Said curved display will allow the Band 2 to better fit the wrist of the user.
Other sensor the original band had will all remain in place, including an optical heart rate monitor, accelerometer/gyroscope, GPS, microphone, Ambient Light Sensor, Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) sensors, and an UV sensor.
Once released, the Band 2 will sing along Microsoft’s Health app that is available for iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices.
Beyond new wearable, the Redmond giant is also expected to unveil the Surface Pro 4 that will replace last year’s Surface Pro 3. We are eager to see how this tablet-laptop hybrid will be embraced by the wider medical community. Also, we wouldn’t be surprised to hear something about clinical trials in which researchers are using on the Microsoft Band/Band 2 to collect data from study participants. More to come, obviously…
