The application would enable doctors to receive alerts, such as test results, on their wrists and, presumingly, be able to respond accordingly.

Pending FDA's 510k clearance, the device provides caregivers the opportunity to take a more active role in helping their loved ones engage in their own care.

A patent application suggests Apple wants to turn its smartwatch into a full-fledged medical device, which could automatically send out an alert when needed.
