Vidameter is described as a fully self-contained, combo smartband that captures all vital signs, detects danger in emergency situations and automatically calls for help, and — thanks to the NFC technology — simplifies everyone’s daily life by enabling cashless shopping, barcode scanning or a keyless entry system.
Vidameter has a touchscreen, and an easy to grasp icons, showing different functions you can use, as well as information on one’s progress, or their lack of. Data gathered by the device is stored anonymously and encrypted on Vidameter itself, though users can share it with doctors, friends or whomever they want.
Completely hypoallergenic, environment friendly, made from 100% recyclable material, the wristband has the ability to “learn” shapes and fit like a second skin to the wrist. What’s more, the Vidameter is also scratch- and shock-proof, water-resistant up to 300 meters, and can operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to +80 degrees Celsius.
Vidameter works in tandem with an accompanying mobile app from which users can tweak settings, and turn on/off notifications on their wrist. The device works in tandem with an accompanying mobile app from which users can tweak settings, and enable/disable notifications on their wrist.
Despite this, folks behind this project managed to cram nine sensors inside that can tell the difference between the emergency and awkward workout. God forbid something happens, Vidameter will automatically send an emergency call and inform up to 10 pre-defined persons or institutions via encrypted SMS, MMS or email. This message contains data of location and vital state, and will not be stored on the mobile phone of the recipient. Should vital state change, a new message will be sent.
Vidameter is currently raising funds at Indiegogo, with the goal to reach $1,000,000. It lacks more than 98% of that goal and with 7 days to go, chances are it won’t succeed. If you’re stubborn enough, you can give it a shot; there’s the $229 package that has a retail value of $479. Delivery date is set for November 2015.
