A company called ActvContent is launching a new smartband called Sync on Indiegogo. Unlike other similar products, this device is not targeting an individual, but the entire family. To that end, the band comes in adult and child sizes, connecting via Bluetooth with the ActvContent Sync mobile app (available for iOS and Android).
Aside from the standard fitness and sleep tracking capabilities pretty much all modern smartbands have, the Sync also comes with few unique features that justify the “family device” moniker.
One of the features, Digital Zone, allows parents to create virtual fences and get alerted if their loved ones wander too far.One of these features helps users find their loved ones if they get lost, and tracks their location up to 150 feet outdoors and 50 feet indoors. The Digital Zone capability builds on top of that, allowing parents to create virtual fences and get alerted if their loved ones (children or old people with dementia) wander too far.
Finally, with the help of Health Keeper, teachers, babysitters, friends and family can access critical health information in case of an emergency. This includes food allergies, emergency instructions and personal physician and guardian contacts.
Sync is up for pre-order at Indiegogo for an early bird discount starting at $69 (MSRP $129); family sets of four smartbands are available for $240 (MSRP $560). The campaign is looking to raise $50,000.
