A toy that learns kids how to manage their own blood sugar level raising funds at Indiegogo

Jerry the Bear

There’s a novel product currently raising funds at Indiegogo. Called Jerry the Bear, it’s an advanced toy made to learn kids how to manage their own blood sugar level.

By playing with Jerry, children develop a sense of empathy and understanding, ultimately empowering them to take an active role in their diabetes care. And the best part is that kids love interacting with this cuddly toy.

Children can feed Jerry by swiping foods over his mouth, check his blood sugar level by squeezing his fingers, and give him insulin using either the insulin pen or the pump on his screen. To make for an engaging experience, the team behind Jerry the Bear came up with 21 animated storybook, each of which has its own set of tasks that need to be completed to unlock more content.

Jerry also comes with 10 food cards and an insulin pen. Children can feed Jerry by swiping foods over his mouth, check his blood sugar level by squeezing his fingers, and give him insulin using either the insulin pen or the pump on his screen.

The interactive experience ensures that every kind of food differently affects Jerry’s blood sugar levels, helping kids learn what to eat and what to avoid.

Jerry is a brainchild of a company called Sproutel. They are looking to raise $20,000 to fully commercialize their advanced toy. The campaign will close on September 4, 2014 though they’ve already managed to surpass their funding goal. Sweet! 😉
