Telehealth company American Well will allow patients using the Amwell app on an iOS 8-powered iPhone or iPad to easily share health data from Apple’s Health app with a doctor during their video visit.
Consumers can choose to share metrics such as heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, blood glucose levels, weight, nutritional information, and respiratory rate. These metrics will allow physicians to better understand a patient’s lifestyle and provide a more comprehensive assessment of their health and fitness.
“HealthKit is a major advance in healthcare,” said Roy Schoenberg, MD, CEO of American Well. “For the first time, we can make a connection between consumer health data on your iPhone and a doctor that visits your home over video. This opens a world of opportunity, with increased access to care for people everywhere and better care of patients with chronic conditions.”
From within the Amwell App, a user will be prompted to give their permission to share the Health data with their doctor, which will feed into the health summary section of their American Well account.
American Well gives consumers direct access to their choice of U.S. board-certified doctors.
