Withings Activité is now up for pre-order for $450, which is more than what the company said the watch will cost once it’s out; previously, we thought it will cost around $390, but apparently that’s no longer the case.
What makes Withings’ product different from other modern watches we’ve seen is that it doesn’t try to do many things at once. Instead it relies on the standard quartz mechanism that is paired with Bluetooth-enabled chip to transmit one’s activity to an accompanying mobile app. What’s more, the Activité looks classy and on the first glance, no one would tell it’s different from any other watch. It has a Swiss-made dial, Swiss-made sapphire and stainless steel case, calf leather strap and a standard watch battery that will work for more than eight months of usage.
However, at $450 – the Activité is not a watch everyone could afford; it will find its buyers among the folks who are used to buying high-end quartz watches which retail in this range.
What makes Withings Activité different from other modern watches we’ve seen is that it doesn’t try to do many things at once. When it comes to built-in features, Withings’ device can keep up with one’s walking, running, swimming, while also doubling as a sleep monitor. It includes a vibrating alarm that is used for notifications — like when you’ve met your goal for the day — and there’s also a silicone strap for switching out when you go on runs.
The first Activité units are going to those who initially registered at Withings’ website. The wider availability is expected — as far as we’ve understood — in the next few weeks.
