InBody activity tracker adds body composition to the mix

InBody activity tracker

InBody is the latest company to join the smart band market with a device that promises to deliver more features than competing products. Their newly unveiled InBody Band goes beyond basic activity tracking to include the company’s medical expertise in the area of body composition analysis, giving wearers an “even deeper insight into their current state as well as the overall effects of their activities and exercises.”

The thicker version of InBody’s Band, which is the one with body composition analyzer, lets users track data such as fat mass, total body water, metabolic rate, and whatnot. As an activity tracker, the band also gathers all of the standard activity data, including walking distances, calories burned, sleep quality and patterns, and heart rate. The InBody Band has its own accelerometer so it can track all that data by itself. Nevertheless, the real “magic” happens when the band is paired with a smartphone, when it can also deliver notifications.

Users will be able to set up activity goals and get notified about those as well. And for those with a more competitive streak, they can rank themselves against their friends for some added motivation.

InBody has yet to release pricing and availability information. Meanwhile, they’ve used CES to show off their fancy band, gather interest and media attention.
