An Israeli startup making affordable patch insulin pump

An Israeli startup TouchéMedical is developing a small, affordable insulin pump that would be within the budgets of millions of diabetics all around the world.

The device has a low cost disposable cartridge, and a reusable core that contains the actual pump and the electronics to drive it. This combo, the company claims, can efficiently replace high cost mechanical parts with more affordable electrical components. For this reason alone, TouchéMedical thinks its technology is perfect for high-populous countries like China and India.

Also included is Bluetooth connectivity support that enables the device to communicate with the smartphone, and eventually send out text messages to keep physicians and loved ones informed on how the drugs are being delivered.

Insulin delivery aside, the company is also working on a tailor made patch pump for Parkinson disease. However, it’s unclear when either pump will hit the market…
