LG Watch Urbane LTE rocks fast cellular connectivity, NFC

LG Watch Urbane LTE

LG unveiled another smart watch just before MWC kicks off in Barcelona. The new Watch Urbane LTE is very similar to its non-4G counterpart though there are some differences as well. For one thing, the LTE version rocks NFC connectivity support, bigger battery (700 instead of 410 mAh), full gig of RAM (instead of 512MB), and three instead of a single button on the (right) side. Perhaps more important is the fact that it’s running webOS rather than Google’s Android Wear platform, which at the moment doesn’t support LTE.

Rest of the specs are unchanged and include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 chip clocked at 1.2GHz, 1.3-inch circular P-OLED screen, 9-axis sensors (gyro / acceleration / compass) as well as the barometric pressure sensor, heart rate sensor and GPS. So yes, the LTE-enabled Urbane will double as a fitness tracking device, as long as LG manages to convince popular fitness app makers to develop applications for the watch. Additionally, it comes with the ability to conduct walkie-talkie style voice chats, and make regular phone calls via VoLTE. Plus, it may be a viable tool for mobile payments thanks to the inclusion of NFC.

LG said that the Watch Urbane LTE will be offered in silver trim though we’re guessing that the gold variant will be released in the future, as well.

The Korean company hasn’t shared any availability and pricing details and we’ll likely have to wait for another few days or weeks to get that information. Stay tuned in the meantime.
