Singapore-based startup raises US$1M for its migraine-predicting app

Singapore-based Healint has raised over US$1 million in seed funding to further develop its Migraine Buddy app for predicting migraines.

The capital was provided by Wavemaker Pacific, Gree Ventures, and Shin Ryoku, as well as National Research Foundation, a Singapore government agency.

Healint’s app uses passive sensor readings from smartphones, external data sources, and user input to help patients better understand their condition. The startup claims a migraine onset prediction of close to 90%, and is now figuring out how to implement a weather radar to help users prevent attacks.

“We studied the reported events of our active users. We applied our own algorithm based on different sensor readings from the phone, our own sleep algorithm (which has accuracy of 93 percent confirmed by users), and external weather API data to predict the next onset of migraine for a particular user in the next 12 hours,” Veronica Chew, co-founder and CMO of Healint, told Tech in Asia.

It is said that the lack of sleep and certain weather changes can lead to migraines, which are the factors the application adds to its equation for determining the next migraine episode.

Healint has 23,000 monthly active users, and keeps growing at 13 percent week-on-week since January. The Migraine Buddy app is available for Android and iOS devices.
