Rockioo Watch is a new smart watch fighting for its place under the sun with the help of the Kickstarter community. Instead of using Android Wear, it rocks the “regular” Android version (4.4) with the company’s own Rockioo OS skin singing on top. This, of course, should provide some additional capabilities to the users who would be able to run full blown apps on their wrist (rather than stripped down versions Android Wear devices can “cope” with). Also, Rockioo can handle phone calls and text messages without connecting to a smartphone.
When it comes to fitness tracking capabilities, Rockioo promises a full suite of compatible apps including those for water sports. Unlike most smart watches, this is a water-proof device (up to 50m) that will keep ticking even while you swim. There’s also a dedicated app for runners that enables competing with other Rockioo owners both locally and around the globe. “Rockioo Run [app] is not just about running with friends but also for the whole world to participate together, via cloud, in a global marathon,” the product’s Kickstarter page reads.
Specs wise, you get a 1.63-inch 320×320 OLED screen, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS, digital compass and a slot for a microSIM card. There’s also a 500mAh battery, which should deliver up to four days of standby time. That right there is an impressive feat by itself.
The Rockioo Watch starts at $129 for the model with 512MB RAM and 4GB of internal storage, or $199 for the version with 1GB RAM and 16GB of storage. The latter variant also packs a sapphire glass display, while both rock full titanium body.
