HidrateMe is a smart water bottle that makes sure you take enough water throughout the day. Working in tandem with connected smartphone (or tablet), the device monitors users’ water intake and syncs that information with a companion app. Moreover, once the algorithm concludes it’s time for another sip, the bottle will start glowing to remind you to drink.
Similarly to other such projects, the HidrateMe team has turned to Kickstarter to crowdfund their idea. However, unlike competing devices, it’s killing it, having blasted past its $35,000 goal in just one day. The bottle creator Nadya Nguyen told TechCrunch that their secret lies in proper preparation. “We did 80 percent of the work for the campaign before it even started,” she said.
Multiple studies have found that drinking enough water can help prevent cancers in the colon and bladder, help reduce crankiness and confusion and aid in weight loss. Water is also essential for the proper circulation of nutrients in your body. That being said, we would expect to see similar (smart) products hitting the market in the future.
The 24-ounce, BPA-free HidrateMe bottle is now up for pre-order for $39, with users being able to choose between five different color options, including iceberg white, bamboo green, ocean teal, crystal pink, and obsidian black. The companion HidrateMe app will be available Winter 2015, when these smart bottles will also start shipping.
