A company called Kuaiwear has launched a crowdfunding campaign for Kuai, touting the product as the world’s first multisport biometric headphones.
According to the project authors, Kuai eliminates the need to carry multiple devices during a workout by combining a heart rate monitor, foot pod, sport watch, MP3 player and virtual coach into a waterproof headphone. Using Valencell’s PerformTek technology — which has been clinically validated by Duke University’s Center for Living — the device can calculate heart rate, VO2 max, calories, cadence, distance, pace and speed in land and water. In addition, it comes with professional training plans, voice feedback and configurable voice alerts.
Kuaiwear’s Kickstarter campaign is looking to raise £40,000, with single Kuai unit going for £94.“The desire to exercise more efficiently drove us to create Kuai, a game changer in the sports industry designed to help people achieve their best, Kuai uses clinically validated technology and provides the most accurate biometric data available in the market, with unmatched connectivity using BLE and ANT+ and customizable training plans, the perfect headphones for virtually any sport, including swimming,” said Kuaiwear co-founder and CEO, Carlos Marco Rider.
The Kuai headphones have five-hour battery live and can operate autonomously using its 8GB of memory and MP3 player, or connected to mobile devices using Bluetooth when they can also be used to answer phone calls. Moreover, users can connect to bike cadence sensors using ANT+.
All of the data Kuai gathers can be accessed from a companion app, or exported as .FIT file to any popular fitness app like MapMyFitnes, Strava or Garmin.
Kuaiwear’s Kickstarter campaign is looking to raise £40,000, and will last through July 9, 2015 with devices slated to ship in November. A single Kuai unit can be pre-ordered for £94.
