Smart insole uGALE raising funds, attention at Kickstarter

Smart insole uGALE

uGALE is a smart insole designed to allow the passage of air, and maintain temperatures in the shoes during both the winters and summers. Launched by the company called Vay Technologies, the product is now up for pre-order on Kickstarter where early bird backers can get it for 199 EUR.

Unlike some other insoles that track the way we walk and how much we move, uGALE — which will work with almost every pair of shoes — is focused on a different problem; it wants to prevent foot problems and diseases, including a majority of fungal and bacterial foot conditions that arise from sweat or cold temperature.

The built-in micro-compressor distributes air to some of the most inaccessible areas of the foot such as the socks. The high-tech insole rocks a built-in micro-compressor that distributes air to some of the most inaccessible areas of the foot such as the socks and this is made possible by the size and shape of the duct.

uGALE features heating elements (for cold weather); adjustable air flow rate; temperature, humidity and accelerometer sensors; as well as a Bluetooth 4.0 radio that is used to connect to smartphones and tablets. The built-in battery provides more than 10 hours of operation, and can be charged sans any wires. This, the project authors say, enable charging without having to take out the insoles from the shoes.

uGALE is also water-resistant, featuring ultra low noise and vibration levels, with shock absorbing areas on heel and toe. The project is looking to raise 37,000 EUR, with shipments slated for October of this year. Inside the box, users get a pair of insoles (black), wireless charging mat and an AC adapter. The companion iOS and Android apps are free to download.
