The newly formed Watson Health got its global headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts, IBM has announced.
Some 700 people will be working at the Kendall Square location in Cambridge for a total of 2,000 employees worldwide in the Watson Health division.
Big Blue also introduced IBM Watson Health Cloud for Life Sciences and IBM Watson Care Manager; the former is made to help biomedical companies bring medical innovations to market more efficiently, while the latter is a population health solution that integrates with Apple’s HealthKit and ResearchKit.
Finally, IBM announced a number of partners which are already working with its Watson Health division. These would include Boston Children’s Hospital, The Columbia University Medical Center, Columbia University, Sage Bionetworks and Teva Pharmaceuticals; the last two have chosen the Watson Health Cloud as their “preferred development platform.”
IBM announced new Watson Health partners, including Boston Children’s Hospital, Columbia University, Sage Bionetworks and Teva Pharmaceuticals. With this new Watson Health offering, the tech giant is looking to play an important role in the future of health care, all while tackling competition from the likes of Salesforce Health Cloud, as well as precision medicine companies such as Persevia and NantHealth.
Considering its deep ties with governments all around the world and other big companies, we have no trouble envisioning the “blue future,” one in which IBM’s servers and software are processing millions of different health inputs, and returning (actionable) results to our phones. Or our wrists.
