Iodine launches medication tracking app for postpartum depression mothers

Start app

Iodine, the startup that delivers tailored drug-taking information and advice, has unveiled a new app to tackle postpartum depression, which has only recently been recognized as a legitimate medical condition.

Launched in partnership with Postpartum Progress, a nonprofit dedicated to helping mothers with depression, the app and companion program — called Start — is made to help new moms track their experience with an antidepressant and determine if it’s working for them as fast as possible. It helps people know what to expect from a medication, and also helps them remember to take it. For those who feel their medication isn’t working — which could be as many as half, judging by medical research — the service helps them talk to their doctor about options.

The two parties are also hoping to learn what the community is experiencing, and learning, together. They anticipate that there are experiences and concerns unique to postpartum depression, and that there may be insights about what works best accordingly. These learnings will then be shared back to the community, without revealing anyone’s identity.

The Start app is free to download for iPhone users; participants in the project just need to enter the referral code “PPP2015” during the sign-up process.
