Joslin Diabetes Center is running a small trial to test an mHealth app and an online nutrition education platform for people with Type 1 diabetes.

According to the post at the ClinicalTrials.gov website, said platform is made to educate patients about how to optimize their glucose levels and analyze their after-meal behavior. The app on its end will be used for data logging, to help patients track their glucose readings. The system is called “Sugar Sleuth”.

The 3-month, 30-person nonrandomized trial will measure blood glucose in the area under the curve.

Joslin’s previous digital health efforts include partnerships with Dexcom and Glooko. In addition, together with Sanofi – the company is working with Google’s Life Sciences division to improve the diabetes treatment. When that (last mentioned) partnership was announced, Joslin President and CEO John Brooks said that he hopes that technological solutions would eventually not only help treat, but cure diabetes.
