It is estimated that over 31 million Americans suffer from back pain, which is the leading cause of disability worldwide. Also, health experts say that as much as 80% of the population will have some kind of back problem in their lives.
A company called Adela Health is looking to tackle this problem by promoting healthy back posture with its hi-tech solution. Called TruPosture Smart Shirt, it is a lightweight sensor-embedded undershirt that is self-contained, but can also sync with the custom TruPosture mobile tracking app.
The built-in multi-sensor technology can track the alignment of the entire spine, while gentle vibrations help the wearer achieve and maintain their ideal posture. The built-in multi-sensor technology can track the alignment of the entire spine, while gentle vibrations help the wearer achieve and maintain their ideal posture — one vibration burst if the user is leaning too forward and two vibration bursts if they are leaning too far back.
In addition, the system supports multiple posture training modes such as standing, sitting, and custom, and can be adjusted to beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Wearers are able to save and recall multiple posture references to review their posture performance over time. And this data can also be shared with medical professionals, if needed.
Created with soft, breathable and anti-microbial Lycra blend fabric, the TruPosture shirt is currently up for pre-order from crowdfunding website Indiegogo, from where users can secure a single unit for $99.
