Apple CareKit apps are now up for download

Apple CareKit

Apple has made its CareKit platform available to developers through Github, and the first CareKit-enabled apps are here.

One of them, One Drop, is used for diabetes management, allowing users to set their goals, track daily progress, and share data with healthcare providers.

Another, Iodine’s Start, serves as a medication management service for people with depression; it simplifies medication tracking in an effort to close the loop between the patient and the doctor.

Glow Nurture pregnancy tracker and Glow Baby early childhood monitor are also using CareKit to enable smart notifications about health updates.

And finally, we have Cleveland Clinic joining the ride with soon-to-be-released app for people with respiratory conditions like asthma.

Announced at last month’s Apple event, CareKit can access data from the iOS Health app, making it easier for the medical community to keep up with the patient between doctor visits. The platform works with health and wellness services to help patients manage treatment and doctors monitor progress.

“We believe that giving individuals the tools to understand what is happening with their health is incredibly powerful, and apps designed using CareKit make this a reality by empowering people to take a more active role in their care,” Apple COO Jeff Williams said in March.
