Labcorp launches AI-powered mobile app to help patients understand lab results

MyLabcorp uses OpenAI technology to explain test results and track health trends over time in plain language

My LabCorp app

Lab testing giant Labcorp has launched MyLabcorp, a mobile app that uses artificial intelligence to help patients make sense of their medical test results. The app combines lab data with educational content and AI-powered explanations to give users better context about their health.

The move comes as more consumers turn to AI tools for health information, but often struggle with fragmented or unreliable sources. A Labcorp survey found that 55% of consumers see AI as important for understanding healthcare information, with 41% already using it to interpret lab results.

AI assistant explains results in plain language

The app’s main feature is an AI chat assistant powered by OpenAI models that can explain lab results in conversational language. Users can ask questions about their test results and get personalized explanations based on their historical Labcorp data.

The AI system is designed to provide clinical context rather than isolated answers. It can identify patterns in results over time and suggest lifestyle considerations, though it doesn’t provide medical diagnoses or treatment recommendations.

“Consumers are increasingly turning to AI to help them make sense of their health, but trust and clinical context matter,” said Amy Summy, Labcorp’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer. “By bringing together Labcorp’s deep scientific expertise with AI, MyLabcorp is designed to help individuals move beyond isolated results to gain deeper insights into their health.”

Key features target patient pain points

MyLabcorp includes several features aimed at common patient frustrations with lab results:

  • Timeline view of test results that shows trends over time in a mobile-friendly format
  • AI chat assistant for real-time explanations of what results mean
  • Educational content covering heart health, mental health, digestion, kidney function and sexual health
  • Appointment scheduling and test ordering capabilities
  • HIPAA-compliant security for health data protection

The health education content is clinically reviewed and based on medical guidelines. It’s integrated with users’ actual lab results to provide personalized context rather than generic health information.

Part of broader digital health trend

Labcorp’s app launch reflects a wider shift toward consumer-focused digital health tools. Traditional healthcare companies are racing to meet patients where they are with mobile-first experiences, especially as younger consumers expect on-demand access to their health information.

The use of AI for health information interpretation is particularly timely. While many patients already use general AI tools like ChatGPT for medical questions, healthcare companies are building specialized applications with clinical oversight and access to actual patient data.

“We’re investing in advanced technology and AI to make diagnostic insights more accessible, personalized and actionable,” said Bola Oyegunwa, Labcorp’s chief information and technology officer. “MyLabcorp reflects this approach by combining Labcorp’s scientific expertise with OpenAI’s models to help individuals better understand their results.”

The app is now available on both iOS and Android platforms, with additional features planned for future releases. Labcorp processes more than 750 million tests annually for patients worldwide, giving it a massive data set to work with as it expands the app’s capabilities.
