Trago turns regular bottles into smart bottles

Trago smart water bottle

Trago is a small device that turns regular water bottles into their smart equivalents. The Trago Cap, which is currently raising funds at Kickstarter, is made to fit on any wide-mouth water bottle, including Nalgene’s, Camelbak’s and Hydro Flasks.

The patent-pending device will automatically measure how much water you drink, sending that information to a connected smartphone where the data will also be synced with other services like Apple Health and MapMyFitness. On a single charge, the built-in battery will provide enough juice to keep the Trago going for up to 6 months.

Beyond tracking individuals, Trago also allows coaches, trainers and parents to monitor groups and multiple bottles.“Gathering smart data from the user, your smart-phone, and other connected wearable devices, Trago helps you pinpoint the perfect amount to drink for you, and then keeps you on track to hit your daily hydration goals,” said Jac Saltzgiver, Co-Founder and CEO of Trago. “Hydration isn’t one size fits all. We believe there is a better way to hydrate, one that is healthier and more specific to the individual athlete and their needs and that’s why we created Trago.”

Trago is touted as “perfect for people who sweat,” whether they are professional athletes, or a 9-to-5’ers who do most of their outdoor activities on the weekends. The device takes into account several factors to determine the right amount of water for the day, including body type, age, gender, height, weight, location, weather, elevation, humidity, activity level and type, and so on.

Beyond tracking individuals, the service also allows coaches, trainers and parents to monitor groups and multiple bottles, ensuring everyone is hydrated and “ready to go on game-day.”

Trago is now up for pre-order through July 2nd; a single unit could be had for $49.99.
