Fitness tracking wrist bands are the new craze of the market with a number of both new and established players launching such devices. A new product, called FlyFit, is joining the larger trend through a Kickstarter campaign, but it comes with a twist. You see, this little device is designed to be worn around an ankle rather than wrist.
This in turn, FlyFit says, should deliver more accurate tracking and include stationary exercises like elliptical or bike machines. What’s more, it will be able to track such information as the number of completed pedal cycles, as well as the RPM of your cycling.
It’s also a water-proof device that will make sure your swimming is added to the mix, as well. Walking, running, stair climbing and sleep tracking also come included.
FlyFit connects to iOS and Android phones via Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) and a dedicated app. It’s designed as a modular device, allowing users to have several different bands of various colors, and simply pop in the core piece to whichever they please.
Without real-time syncing, FlyFit will last around 8 days; however, with Bluetooth turned on – the battery life drops significantly to just 8 hours, which is still enough for a few days of workouts.
The team behind FlyFit managed to reach its $90,000 funding goal, and will soon start working on the ready-for-production model.
