Portable food scale WellScale

WellScale is a small digital food scale and pocket nutritionist that connects to one’s smartphone or tablet to provide all of the nutrition information to the users while on the go. Measuring 80 x 20 mm, the compact gadget fits comfortably into pockets or purses, while an accompanying app boasts a database of over 8,000 ingredients and nutrition information based on USDA recommendations.

WellScale is a compact digital food scale that works in tandem with a mobile app, boasting a database of over 8,000 ingredients and nutrition information based on USDA recommendations.“There are currently no scales on the market that consumers can take to restaurants, bars, or parties,” said Hugo Freire, Developer at WellScale. “WellScale gives consumers the assurance of knowing exactly what they’re eating, no matter the situation.”

Users place the food they wish to measure on the scale, enter the food type into their app, and let the WellScale do its magic, showing exact nutritional data of what they’re eating. The accompanying app will also allow users to set up a profile to keep a record of their dietary history and receive personalized tips and recommendations to improve their daily eating habits.

Wellscale is now live on Indiegogo, looking to raise $37,000 in a crowd-funding campaign. If Freire reaches its goal by July 9, WellScale units will be shipped by December 2014.
