Smart boxing gloves raising funds at Indiegogo

Boxing gloves are next in line to get their “smart” counterpart. The company behind this novel product is Responsive Sports which has turned to Indiegogo to launch its iPunch idea.

Said device comes with two sensors, one of which is used to measure how hard the punch landed, while the other is a three-axis motion sensor used to tell the speed and strength.

Like any other smart product out there, the iPunch connects to a mobile app that shows the measurements and training advice.Like any other smart product out there, the iPunch connects to a mobile app that shows the measurements and training advice. One of the features is touted as “the Guitar Hero of boxing,” providing users with audible directions. These directions change with the time, and as you improve, they progress too; so it will always be challenging, making “iPunching” fun both for new and experienced boxers.

Another feature called Test of Strength pits users against each other. Participants get three chances to punch as hard as they can, and the strongest one wins. The top players are then displayed on a leader board within the app.

The gloves’ built-in, rechargeable batteries last about 15 hours, which is good enough for 300 3-minute rounds.

At the moment, the iPunch is only designed for MMA training, but the company plans to develop boxing gloves in the near future. Those interested to secure their unit can do so from the project’s Indiegogo page. Responsive Sports is looking to raise $75,000; early backers can get the gloves for $139.

UPDATE: iPunch’s page at Indiegogo has been removed. You can check the project’s official website.
