Samsung and LG announced new smart watches today, both of which look like traditional watches, while providing users with access to notifications, and other “smart” features. The LG G Watch R boasts a stainless steel body and circular screen, while the Samsung Gear S has a square-ish look, a massive 2-inch screen and its own SIM connectivity that allows it to work even without the phone.
mHealth-wise, both device sport 9-Axis sensors (Gyro/Accelerometer/Compass), Barometer, PPG (Heart Rate Monitor) sensors to enable fitness tracking. Moreover, Samsung’s watch also has an UV light sensor that may be used to suggest users when it’s the best time to hide from the Sun.
