Another day, another smart watch joining the market. This time round, it’s coming from a startup called AvidSport which wants to differentiate its offering by catering its offering towards golfers. Nevertheless, the Avid Watch will also be able to track the “usual stuff” like steps, distance, time and calories burned, and send that data to an accompanying app on iOS and Android devices.
Notifications are also included, bringing alerts on text messages and incoming calls to one’s wrist. From here, there’s also the option to control smartphone’s camera and music playback.
AvidSport is looking to raise CA$150,000 in a Kickstarter campaign to turn the Avid Watch into a real product. The device itself is made out of anodized aluminum and comes in few color versions; it’s also water resistant to 1 atmosphere, and has a battery that can last up to 41 days on a single charge.
What makes Avid Watch different are built-in “golf features.” Each unit comes pre-loaded with over 30,000 golf courses from all around the world. The built-in software can provide front, center, and back distance to the green, and is able to automatically recognize the course (with GPS?). Plus, let’s not forget such features as auto hole advance, auto distance update and scoring.
