BodyEcho promises most powerful sleep tacking, ever

BodyEcho is a novel sleep tracking device raising funds and awareness at the crowdfunding site Kickstarter. Promising “the most accurate and powerful sleep tracking solution,” this smart headband will (apparently) go beyond what’s currently available on the market.

The device features a laboratory-grade oximeter which measures user’s heart rate and oxygen level to the highest degree of precision available in consumer sleep sensors, combining it with an accelerometer which senses both small vibrations as snoring and larger movements like turning from side to side.

BodyEcho combines a laboratory-grade oximeter with accelerometer to do its magic.“While other sleep devices and applications may only measure your movement in bed, the BodyEcho uses advanced sensor technology to give you clear insights into sleep stages (light, deep, REM), unconscious disturbances in your sleep, sleeping position, interruption of breathing, changes in blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), tossing and turning, heart rate, and snoring,” the Kickstarter page says. “By using technology previously available only in sleep labs, the BodyEcho can help you achieve your best sleep.”

Working with the accompanying mobile app, BodyEcho displays the sleep data in an easy to understand mobile app and web portal, allowing users to develop better sleeping habits.

The BodyEcho is in active development; the team has an accurate and functioning heart and oxygen sensor, hardware, and firmware for collecting data and sending it to a device and server. Alpha versions of the app are running on the web and mobile devices, and they are currently finalizing the design prototypes for the final enclosure and headband, setting up back-end functionality, and SDK development.

The company is looking to raise $100,000 and they still have a long way to go. A single unit goes for $85 (early bird price).
