Breathometer unveiled what it says is the first wireless oral health smartphone device, the pocket-sized Mint. The easy-to-carry gadget enables users to instantly measure breath quality and hydration levels based on Volatile Sulfur Compounds (VSCs) and moisture through a single breath sample. VSCs are said to be the primary cause of halitosis, a condition created by normal anaerobic bacteria biofilms in the mouth.
Food and beverage choices, poor oral maintenance, gum disease, tooth decay or underlying health issues all contribute to elevated VSCs. The result is reduced breath quality and increased social anxiety about one’s breath.
Mint is now available through an Indiegogo campaign, where it could be pre-ordered for $99.“Over time, low breath quality can be a signal that you need to visit your dentist or physician about other possible causes,” says Charles Michael Yim, CEO of Breathometer. “Like all of our breath analysis technologies, Mint offers a fantastic solution for making decisions about your personal health.”
Mint communicates wirelessly via Bluetooth LE to the free Breathometer smartphone app, offering actionable results and feedback on breath quality and hydration. Users simply hold the Mint mouthpiece to their lips while the device draws out an air sample for analysis.
The data gathered is reported on an easy-to-understand numeric scale that measures Hydrogen Sulfide, Methyl Mercaptan and Hydrogen Disulfide levels in the breath.
Mint is now available through an Indiegogo campaign, where it could be pre-ordered for $99, with shipments starting in August of this year. Those looking to join the Mint Beta Program can get their units earlier, but that will come with a higher price tag of $200.
