Stir unveiled a new smart desk – the Stir Kinetic Desk M1, which is made to complement the existing premium model F1. At the same time, with the M1 – the company also wants to go beyond the home and corner office, as the new table is “ready for full-office installations from 10 to 10,000 desks.”
The new cloud-based component allows for transferrable user data that can “travel” with workers as they move between desks. The highlight feature of the original smart desk remains in place, allowing users to easily adjust the table height and put their standing hours into a big picture of improving their health (by sitting less). The table will learn user’s preferences, enable goal setting and remind users to change positions throughout the day.
Alongside new model, Stir also unveiled an entirely new, custom designed electronics that provide a faster and richer experience for users of both F1 and M1 tables. The processor is 4x faster (1GHz-Cortex-A8), the built-in storage has been doubled, and the new 5-inch 800×480 pixels (WVGA) screen has a 360 degree field of view and an anti-glare film. This screen also comes with multi-touch support to enable future features such as “pinch to zoom”. Finally, the electronics design is completely modular, including a Single Board Computer (SBC) and Stir’s proprietary cape module, housed together in a removable electronics enclosure that makes the desk easy to service in the field.
Stir has also prepared the new cloud-based component, allowing for transferrable user data that can “travel” with workers as they move between desks within a company network or around the world. What’s more, this new software will also allow Stir’s desks to sing along other mHealth products like wearables.
The Stir Kinetic Desk M1 is now available from Stir’s website and select retailers for $2,990.“The response to the Stir Kinetic Desk has been amazing; over the past year we have been flooded with requests to release a Stir Kinetic Desk in a form factor that would fit into any large office installation,” said JP Labrosse, CEO and founder of Stir. “Most important, though, is that we really are changing the way people work – on average, Stir Kinetic Desk users stand for half their day, while 95% of users move everyday – that is tremendous.”
The Stir Kinetic Desk M1 comes in two different form factors — consumers get a curved version with gently sloped front edge, while businesses requiring large-scale installations can go for the rectangular-shaped table that is popular in most office settings. The latter can be manufactured with nearly any work surface, finish or customer originated material.
The Stir Kinetic Desk M1 is now available from Stir’s website and select retailers for $2,990, while the more premium F1 model goes for $4,190.
