The lazy economy is booming all around the world, China included. The local company Diandao, which provides on-demand massage therapist, hopes to successfully ride that wave, having raised $5 million in Series A funding.
Banyan Capital led the round along with 58Daojia, a local web startup that specializes in other on-demand services such as housekeeping and beauty treatments.
At the moment, Diandao only has massage therapists in Beijing and Shanghai, and will use the money to expand to other cities and grow its platform.
The price of an expert massage starts at about RMB 128 (about $20), putting it on a par with regular, professional massage parlors that can be found in every Chinese city. Diandao, and its investors for that matter, hope that the convenience of ordering the service through the phone will bring in more users, who don’t necessarily want to travel across the town to get the “proper” massage.
