FDA clears LifeWatch’s ACT software on Android

LifeWatch

LifeWatch AG has received FDA clearance to run its ACT (Ambulatory Cardiac Telemetry) software on the Android platform; the core monitoring services system ACT currently runs on a different operating system.

Initially, the software has been cleared for use with the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, but should work just as well with an array of other devices running Google’s mobile platform. LifeWatch also projects that it will receive clearance to market a cardiac telemetry patch technology using Android later this year.

This clearance is part of the company’s plan to introduce a universal gateway, which will also run on Android and is currently under development.

This isn’t LifeWatch’s first FDA clearance — in December 2014, the agency nodded the company’s Vital Signs Patch device.
