Microsoft Band 2 gets activity reminder, music controls

Microsoft Band activity reminder

Microsoft has released an update for its wrist-worn device, Microsoft Band 2, to proactively remind wearers they’ve sat too long. This feature isn’t exactly the favorite for all users, but luckily there’s an option to turn it off.

The companion software also got a slightly revamped exercise tile, which should make it easier to track all of the key metrics, including calorie burn, heart rate and the duration of an exercise. Also, exercises are now grouped into specific types.

On the other, non-health/non-fitness side, the Band 2 got music playback controls, the feature that for some reason was missing from the original firmware. Users are now able to pause, play, skip forward/back and adjust a song’s volume from their wrist — and this will work with all music apps.

The new software version is now available for Microsoft Band 2 owners; however, it is unclear whether the original Microsoft Band will get the same goodies, as well.
