The newly unveiled Samsung Gear S smart watch got MapMyFitness’ MapMyRun app allowing folks to keep track of their runs without a smartphone.
“Building off of the Gear 2 app, we’re confident the Gear S app will provide a simple, delightful workout experience directly controlled from your wrist,” MapMyFitness President, Robin Thurston, said. “This device allows our users to stay connected, even during their most active moments.”
Without pulling the phone out of an armband or pocket, users are able to see their stats with a quick lift of the hand. Time, distance, pace and calories can all be viewed quickly and in real time, with additional features coming in the next few months.
The Gear S was announced at Samsung’s UNPACKED event and includes a curved, wrist hugging display that offers a clean design, and built-in 3G, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. It will be available in global markets starting October 2014.
