Raymio wearable tracks your exposure to the sun

Raymio

Raymio is not another activity tracking wearable; although it’s a wrist-worn device, the device’s main focus is not to calculate your steps and calories. Instead, it is designed to track your exposure to the sun.

Raymio registers user’s UV A+B exposure and offers personalized protection strategies according to each individual’s skin type and exposure history. It helps users prevent excessive exposure which can cause sunburn and other UV related discomforts by providing actionable advice on when to put on sun lotion, seek shade and which types of clothes you should wear.

Raymio also tunes into the companion app and cloud-based service to estimate the sensors’ position in relation to the sun.Beyond the built-in sensor, Raymio also tunes into the companion app and cloud-based service to estimate the sensors’ position in relation to the sun. Makers of Raymio call this feature 360° Sun Safety, which is made possible in partnership with a meteorological institute, who provides them with UV index satellite data. This, they say, is needed for situations when Raymio sensor doesn’t face the sun, with software algorithms compensating for temporary drops in input.

The mentioned companion app supports a number of users, enabling an entire family to benefit from “managed sun exposure.” There are also forecasts, statistics and advice on sun safety, as well as social features for connecting with friends and family to help each other keep healthy UV exposure levels.

Raymio is now up for pre-order through Indiegogo from where it could be had for as little as $45 for early birds, or $55 after the initial quantities have been sold out.
