Vertisense unveiled what it claims is the “world’s most advanced mobile alcohol tracking solution.” The portable device, called Alcohoot Edge, connects to the iPhone and Android-based devices, and is deemed “perfect for monitoring and tracking the short- and long-term health effects of alcohol consumption.”
Like the original Alcohoot, the Edge also uses the same grade of technology found in breathalyzers used by law enforcement agencies. It combines a platinum electrochemical fuel cell along with an active breath sampling system that includes a 15-second timer to ensure the most accurate Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) reading. Users simply blow into the Alcohoot Edge to measure their breath, receiving instant feedback on the BAC level in their body. For repeat usage, Alcohoot Edge offers replaceable mouthpieces for improved hygiene and ingress protection.

Beyond providing BAC measurements, the companion app also includes morning quizzes so it can perform qualitative analysis to algorithmically predict optimal alcohol consumption levels. There’s also a Smartline Line that provides users with trends in their alcohol consumption and is supported by Apple HealthKit.
The Alcohoot Edge is now up for pre-order through a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo where it looking to raise $25,000 with single unit going for $60 (early bird).
